Felis Avatar Available in Free Beta

By Bixyl Shuftan

One of the upcoming avatars that I had heard the most about is the anthro “Felis” domestic cat avatar by Uchi Desmoulins, notably through Internet film clips. A few days ago, I heard a beta version was available for free. So some friends and I went to the Curious sim to go get a copy.

The sim had a few structures, including an underground sewer. As for the avatar, to get a copy one had to find a marked box and click it within 10 meters of it. Once someone clicked on it, it would vanish and appear else where in the sim. To help others looking for it, some people who already had the avie would sit on it to make it easier to see.

What made things tricky was when it appeared in the vortex in one corner of the sim. It was inside a depression marked off with “do not cross” tape, a little fencing, and signs. The vortex crackled with lightning, and dust rolled down the rim and into the hollow, disappearing in the hole. Anyone getting too close, whether on foot or flying in the air, would be sucked in and ported elsewhere in the sim. Needless to say, when the box appeared there, getting it could be a challenge.

For a free avatar, the beta Felis is very good. My friends thought it looked great, some mentioning the detail of the whiskers, and one the muscle tone. Someone in a group chat thought it had a lower ARC than most feline avies he knew of. The avatar has a built in “Muzzletalk,” and will move it’s lips when speaking, or if the nose is clicked. The eyes are also adjustable, both the color and the width of the pupils from huge and round to narrow slits to somewhere in between. Uchi also made available a box with two more pairs of eyes, one having pupils that get smaller instead of narrowing. The “Box of Eyeballs” appears near the main entrance.

The avatar has no head hair other than fur. But one can easily get it elsewhere (I use the hair from my Wingless avatars for it). And only comes in one color: white.

The Felis is not Uchi’s only free avatar. Earlier this year, Uchi made available a beta version of his Ringtail for no charge.

For a beta feline avie, just “purr-fect.”

Styles of Edo Tuxedo Collection 2008

Click images to see full size

Tuxedo 3 co ordinate 10
Tuxedo 3 co ordinate 01

Tux 01, with the shirt from co ordinate o2 and the waistcoat from co ordinate 38.
Tuxedo 02 corodinate 05 and tuxedo 01 coordinate 38.
Tuxedo o1 coordinate 02 and tuxedo 01 coordinate 38 again.
For weeks I have been waxing lyrical about the Styles of Edo new tuxedo collection. I have told you about the multitude of variations available (Edo himself claims 96 variations, but if you buy the indiviual neck ties etc I am certain you can get more - but NINETY SIX VARIATIONS - and not a bad one amongst them!). I have sung the praises of the details, colours and texturing. I have whispered that Edo is a god among menswear designers.
Weeks ago I was hoping to bring you an article that was most pictures of a selection of the collection, unfortunately computers die, connections fry and things happen - so only now am I able to bring you that article. To end this article I would like to say that there are limitations to SL photography and to the quality levels I can get Blogger to reproduce for me - so this is by way of a teaser - these clothes are a hundred times better in world than I can manage to reproduce here.

I would also like to thank Minty Bachem for modelling (he is also available to escort ladies to any formal event - he even has the wardrobe), also much thanks to Hempy Weezles and Medow5571 Shilova for stepping into the breach when our photographer lost their internet connection leaving us somewhat in the lurch. Great job guys, thank you.

And again, gents, go - add at least one of these tuxedos to your wardrobe - then you too will be helping make SL a prettier place one male avatar at a time.

Here be Dragons

Almost two years ago, when I was still a newbie on the grid, one of the regulars in the club I frequented turned up one day in a small dragon avatar. I was instantly entranced, by the detail and the pure 'otherness' of dragon avs. Since then I have had many friends who spend at least some of their time in world as dragons. Although I love the look of these fantasic avs and I've had great fun flying (and being dropped from great heights) on the backs, talons and jaws of various dragons I've never taken the plunge myself. So eager to know more about the Second Life of dragons, I interviewed three regular dragon avatar users.

Firehorse: What first drew you to wearing a dragon Av?
George Tanabe:The artistry and the ability to fashion something beautiful and unique.
Dezaria Cazalet, Astral Dragon: I have a dragon heart..I AM dragon... the dragon av is a visual expression of this...
dana Vanmoer: I just love fantasy and a dragon is the ultimate fantasy creature
F.R:How long have you been wearing a dragon av?
G.T: Since summer 2007
D.C:Since about 30 days after being in SL so... about 14 months.
D.V:I got the first one after about 3 months in SL.

F.R.:Is the dargon av your main av?

G.T:*one* of them is, yes.

D.C: I am Lady Dragon most of the time as you fit better in places so I am either human form or 2 legged dragon one.

D.V: I don't wear it often as I find its too big for most places - I also have a cute whelp (tiny dragon) plus a dragon pet which is worn on my shoulders and wraps around me.

F.R:What is the appeal of being a dragon, for you?

G.T:It's like a good coffee table book. It stimulates conversation beyond the usual. Often the topics swing to favorite books of mine, which feature dragons, of course.

D.C:I love the beautiy and the freedom it represents and truly my heart is dragon.

D.V:They represent power and are very awe inspiring - the tiny ones are just cute

F.R:How many dragon avs do you own?

G.T:Err...lost count... over 30 now. Some are mods of "packages"....but I own most of the adult and tiny versions from IoW plus a dozen more from around SL.

D.C: Six Isle of Wyrms wyrmlings and wyrms, one W&M one and one 2 legged one.

D.V: Three actual dragons plus several draconite avatars which are like a humanised form. Don't forget everyone now has the dragonlet from Grendels children as a default avatar now.

F.R:What is the favourite dragon av you own?

G.T:Steam Dragon Hatchling... I call him Gadget, for my love of all things mechanical and steam-punk related.

D.C: Astral Dragon... that is truly me...

D.V:I love the violet whelp

F.R: How do you spend your time when in a dragon av?

G.T: The Steam Dragon Hatchling,You never forget your first love. ;)

D.C: A two legged red version that can dance :)

D.V: Elder Uthgolian Dragon (Artic 'Iceshimmer')

F.R:How do you spend your time when in a dragon av?

G.T: Wandering about; chatting with friends, dragon or otherise; annoying 'humans' and 'elves'...generally being goofy. The same I did as a human AV, only this is funnier.

D.C: Hanging out with my dragon partner, my dragon friends... dancing at clubs, flying.

D.V:Usually setting fire to people on the dancefloor - the whelp has a couple of dances with it.

F.R: How do you find people respond to your dragon avs?

G.T:Usually with curiosity and appreciation of the appearance. Most folks are very tolerant of tinies. Now, when I drag the BIG dragons out, a lot of people either are astonished at the size or get pissed because I stomp all over them.

D.C: Some are shocked most are amazed! The love looking at it and they seem to want to talk to me more so because of it.

D.V:Most think the whelp is cute, the Uthgolian is scary LOL

F.R: Who is your favourite maker of dragon avs?

G.T:Daryth Kennedy, though Flea Bussy comes a close second. And Rock Hayek's anthrodragons are the best I've ever seen.

D.C: Isle of Wyrms.

D.V:Grendels Children without hesitation apart from the fantastic quality they keep their prices very low for all their avatars.

F.R: What is the most you have paid for a dragon av?

G.T: L$5500

D.C:L$3500

D.V:I can't remember the price but I know the Uthgolian was the most expensive.

F.R:Would you recommend other people try being a dragon on SL and why (or why not)?

G.TSure. Being a dragon is a unique experience in SL. It's a lot of fun and you can support the great artists who design these lovely creations.

D.C:I would if you know you are dragon... most dragons knew/know that they are truly dragon... it's not an experiment it's more a state of mind, a state of being so to speak... you have a dragon heart and you just KNOW you are DRAGON.

D.V:I would recommend anyone to try it out, but it is definitely for roleplay more than everyday wear. There are a lot of dragon communities in SL if your interest lays in being a dragon full time i would suggest looking into these.manipulating the camera and movement as a huge dragon is problematic - I don't think its something a newbie should try until they have mastered movement controls as a normal avatar.

I hope this article has given an insight into dragons on Second Life. We all have a free dragon av in our inventory now, so give it a try, you might be suprised.

With much thanks to George Tanable, Dezaria Cazalet Astral Dragon and Dana Vanmoer. Pictures are of Dezaria, Dana and dragons at the Isle of Wyrms.

The “Crazy Tinies” - Loco Poco Avatars

The subject for this week's avatar article is a new brand of tiny av: Loco Pocos. Created by Damien Fate, these tinies were first available earlier this summer. Considering the uber-cutness of the avatar and the variety of facial expressions and emotes, the Loco Poco can only be called first-class, possibly *the* best tiny avatar in Second Life.

Tiny avatars I’ve seen are designed for a cute-factor in mind. Loco Pocos excel at it. The avatars are also designed to be easily customizable, the avatar able to change it’s coat and eye color, as well as able to wear wings and other attachments.

But what sets them apart from others is the ease of use of their animations, coming right with the avatar. The HUD unit allows the player to express a number of facial expressions and full body emotes. The facial features are not static, but change to reflect emotions. Plus they often make sound when emoting. With a press of the button, the avatar can look angry and “grrr,” to laying on the floor and snoring, to crying a shower of tears, to throwing a kiss with a “mwaah,” to a hearty belly laugh, and more.

The name Loco Poco translates to “crazy tiny” in Spanish, appropriately enough. The instructions are also in several languages. It’s also noteworthy that Torley Linden was among the beta testers of these tinies. The store is just in front of the main porting entrance. Avatars are sold in the center, accessories on the edge to the right of the door when entering. Their avatars cost 350L each, most of the accessories 100L. They also advertise an Avatar Rendering Cost (how much computer power it takes to make your avie appear) of 640.

After some thought, I decided to try out the Loco Poco fox. Showing it around to my freinds, they were amused by the versatile tiny, going “Awww” at the sight of it’s emotes. One told me he was thinking of getting one.

Besides Loco Pocos Island, you can also get the avatars at SLExchange.

Loco Poco also has an adventure-filled island, made with these avatars in mind. One that can provide hours of fun. Look for a detailed article of the island in the near future.

A charming little avatar.

Styling your Second Life with Firehorse

This week I have to apologise for the lateness of this article - due to circumstance totally beyond my control I was computerless for a couple of days. But from now on Styling your Second Life with Firehorse will be published on a Sunday - all things being equal.
This weeks challange was to make a tiny avatar for 500L$ a task far easier than any undertaken so far - and probably the most sucessful. First of all my deepest thanks to Bixyl, who was this weeks willing guinea pig.
I started off by visiting Wynx's (check Wynx Whplashs profile for the location of her main shop - she moves a lot). The avs created by Wynx are superb, the vendor pictures do not do them justice, and as well as the cuter, more typical tiny avs there is a fantastic rhino - an avatar with such power and presence that it really does punch well above it's weight. These avs are a testiment to the skill and craft of the maker, the detail is way above what you would usually see in any sort of avatar in SL - if there were complete human avs for sale this good, I would be out of business.
After much deliberation Bixyl opted for a squirrel av - which is so cute that only it's detailing save it from being nausiating.
The av comes with two gestures (waves I believe) but no AO - but after spending sometime wearing the av Bixyl assures me that it doesn't actually need a tiny AO - more testiment to the workmanship. L£350 well spent on the av.

Bixyl is a very respectable sort of fox and never goes around in just his fur, so clothing was the next quest. We didn't have far to go as there was a CatPaws vendor in the same space - these are delightful, quirky designs, well made with wonderful detailing, this was tough - so many choices. For humour value (and because Bixyl is practical as well as stylish) we chose the electicians outfit with toolbox and toolbelt. This was L$150 and worth every penny. if you don't believe just look at the pictures. Catpaws has a lot of outlets so just check Cat Masala's profile for details. To sum up for a mere 500 linden you can have a wonderful tiny av, complete in every way - and all of the highest quality if you go tiny. The over all opinion was highly flattering as Bixyl took me at my word and wore the av around and about for a while.

With many thanks to Bixyl Shuftan, who made this weeks challenge so much fun.

Second Life’s first fully automated face transplant service

Neuron Bandit investigates this pioneering project into avatar customisation
Cyberextruder's 'AutoFace service' is a fully automated sl /website based service, allowing the customer to upload a facial image for transplant onto their avatar.
This digital cosmetic service does exactly what is advertised. It stamps the features from your photo on to your avatar and cleverly positions the eyes, mouth and nose to the correct facial geometry. This process requires some image preparation which is described in detail at their store and webpage (accessed from vendor link only – I believe).
These image specifications must be met as closely as possible; otherwise your appearance will be dramatically distorted and if you are really careless, horrific to look at.
A summary of the photo criteria are, to use a passport style photo (Close up, looking straight ahead, eyes open, well lit and without shadows on face). Your hair must be away from your face, glasses should be removed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KEY NOTE:The key to understanding this preparation is to remember anything shown in the photograph on or close around the face will be transferred awkwardly to the face map, like a tattoo. The idea is to capture a clean image of the facial features only, without expression. Glasses and hair can be added afterwards using sl accessories.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Refraining from expression is required to maintain the shape of your face in a relaxed format, which works best for this service. For example, grinning with teeth sparkling will result in the exposed teeth to become mapped around the opening of the mouth. Keeping your mouth closed in this situation is a must ;)
Criteria met.
Then you are ready to generate a relaxed and natural looking texture map. Next step is very simple; just select your avatar gender, then browse and upload your picture to the website.
It is quickly processed and a preview of your face map is displayed on an avatar viewer which can be rotated, zoomed upon and scrutinised.
Looking at the preview straight on, the results are quite impressive. However when using the interface to rotate your preview, the limitations of this service are revealed. The features of the face appear stamped onto and the face and the remaining photograph is then blurred away leaving just the facial details.
For a fully automated service, which correctly positions texture to geometry, matches avatar skin tone to face map and removes the excess from the image, it is an impressive system.
A side effect of this processing often causes the eyebrows, corners of eyes and the chin to bleed around the sides of the face.
Producing a distorted blur and streaking (see photo example for these phenomenon)
(I used an image of a well known face to test this system, not my own face)
Also the qualities of the face are in sharp detail, which contrasts significantly to the obvious blurring on the sides of the face.
This is not a real problem though because AutoFace, kindly supplies your texture in .jpg format, which you can load into an image editing application and tidy up.
When you are happy with the overall appearance of your map select continue, here you will be asked for your email address where your new texture will be delivered. I didn’t proceed any further during my research; however I presume having paid the kiosk $L2700 back at the sl store that your purchase will be delivered via email.
This presumption is made because it is advertised that your texture will be supplied in an editable .jpg format, which can then be cleaned up.
My experience of trying to use this service (using try for free option), was that it was not easy to end up with a good looking avatar face in the preview display. I’m by no means an expert in this field of study and tried my very best to get a nice looking texture preview all correctly aligned, but unfortunately I failed to do so. However you sl gurus won’t be fazed by this new glimpse into the future of avatar makeovers,
I’m sure you will get better results than I achieved and if not then you may have a laugh ;)

Styling your Secondlife with Firehorse

This week we are going to explore something a little different. We are going to make a female avatar, with skin, AO and wardrobe, for L$500. But to make life a little more interesting we are going to get everything we need from www.onrez.com – just to see if it can be done.
First you will need to register, so go to the site and follow the sign up instructions, then hop inworld, go to onrez island and touch one of their boards so it knows who you are, here you will be give an onrez wallet which you put your lindens into – those lindens are now only available to you for use on the onrez site.
Now shopping this way has obvious advantages, not least of which being some designers sell of special items and clearance items either very cheaply or free. You can also get things which aren’t available inworld.
BUT – and here are the downsides, it can be very hard to tell exactly what you are buying, not every designer bothers putting a picture up and as we all know, with the aid of photoshop, the camera can lie.
First I started with the skin, it was tempting to go for the pixels spa skins that are on special offer – L$50 for a two option skin pack with a beautifully detailed face and skin tone, has got to be good, even if the body detail is a little lacking, but I felt this would be almost cheating, I know what I’d be getting, I have some pixel spa skins – so – I reluctantly passed those by and kept browsing. In the end I went for a Frick retro skin – a bargain for only L$10!
Next for the AO, this was slightly more difficult, because lets face it, a new walk is great but we spend a lot of time standing around and it’s nice to have a ladylike standing pose. The AO choices for L$100 or less was somewhat limited and I decided that really, a submissive AO isn’t for me, no matter how cheap it is so I opted for a *SHJL* AO for L$100.
Next hair..now hair is not something I would usually risk buying without demoing first, at least not without knowing the designer, and it has to be said on onrez there is a collection of ETD hair for under L$100 which are lovely and reliable, but this is an exercise in risk taking so, I jumped in blind and bought a fancy bun in blood red from Mae Best, it was L$10 so not a huge risk.
Now the body is sorted, and yes, I didn’t buy a shape, because my own shape is based on a readily available freebie that has had a certain amount of tweaking, yes I had a friend to help with that (great fun – standing naked with her shouting “Up a bit, no too far, down a bit”) but if I can do it anyone can.
Time for the fun stuff, I decided that a lady should have one casual out fit and one formal and of course SHOES! Have I mentioned I am a bit of a shoe addict??
No shortage of choice, in fact choice is a bit overwhelming but in the end I opted for an evening gown called 39 Goddess by Lovely Ackman for L$20 and GsBB system dress February by Gumi Yao (this series of outfits is designed to be mixed with each other) for L$75.
Shoe wise I played relatively safe – for most of this article I’ve tried to go for lesser known names but after over 100 pages of shoes which looked to be of very varying quality I opted for the simply sexy heels by Simone! L$150 with and without walk.
Now for the results, the Frick skin is excellent, one heavy-ish make up (unfortunately for me this was the only option with freckles) and one more elegant make up – body detail is acceptable – but that depends on how important it is to you – if you want to look stunning naked this may not be the skin for you but it is perfectly acceptable for a low cut dress and the skin has an almost china doll like translucence . Added bonus with the skin, which I didn’t realise when I bought it, it comes with a shape – so bouquets all around for the Frick skin.
The hair was slightly disappointing but for the price it is more than acceptable and the basic design is good.
The AO is fine , I have paid a lot more money for worse AO’s and this has some nice poses.
The formal evening dress has lovely textures (and gained me compliments when I wore it out and about). It also comes with earrings and armbands – the only thing I didn’t like was the scarf which looked big and bulky on the neck.
The GsBB dress is lovely – not only is it already a new favourite for me but I will be investing in the others in the series, it’s well made and sits well on the body.
The shoes are, of course, lovely, very classy and surprisingly high quality for the price.
So for a total spend of L$365 you can be all set to venture into SL – and lets face it a good week collecting from the money trees for the newbies or a good week camping or earning tips for the rest of us and you are all set . With the added advantage you can do it all without having to tp across the grid, worrying about being Ruthed or losing landmarks.

Styling your Secondlife with Firehorse

This week's article is about none human avs - not tiny, not furry, just not human.
Now before I go into the details the pictures are of me wearing the chocobo from Enkythings and the Beaver from Grndel's Children. Now on with the article.

Gamersbrand feebies have several free avs. Various free mech avs for those of you robotically minded. Also a free potato head Av (with full permissions) and a giant eyeball av with full permissions. Here too you can find all sorts of clothes, jewelry and toys for human avs.

Freebie Dungeon has all sorts of great stuff, as well as male and female shapes, clothes and all the usual stuff this store has a box with 13 assorted fantasy avatar shapes ( a nice mix of male and female) and the rather sweet (and readily available from many places). Psyra's triceratops av.

Enkythings is rightly famous for it's high quality dollerbies and freebies (as well as it's more expensive shoes...did I mention I'm a shoe addict?) but I digress here you can find a plethera of wonderful avatars - from south park avatars to darleks - some are free - some are 1 linden.
I have, I admit save the very best until last - Grendel's children have some absolutely fab free avs - some are a whole linden dollar, some are free - all are an absolutely stunning quality. In the picture I am modeling the beaver - but only because it was more fun showing people the beaver than the everso cute (and large enough to be slightly disturbing) ladybug. Ladies - there are hours of purile, childish fun to be had asking random people on your friends list if they want to see your beaver. There are so many free avs scattered around at Grendel's that it would take far too long to list them - but they are all of the high quality that Grendels is rightly famous for. I was lucky enough to meet Flea Bussy when I first came into SL, not only one of the most talented people it's been my pleasure to encounter, but also touchingly kind to a bedazzled newbie and extremely witty. All the staff at Grendel's are blessed with the patience of saints - as long as you are polite and stick to the sim rules they will talk for hours about the avatars and other things they have for sale. These people deserve respect, so please, remember - you might be lost (it's a large place) you might be confused, you may even be a bit freaked out by having a dragon wish you good day or have a horse ask if you'd mind sitting on them so they can adjust their new saddle - but BE POLITE - this is one of the friendliest places on SL, help keep it that way by being nice.

Styling your Second Life with Firehorse

Styling an avatar for free is easy – and something we have probably all done at one time or another.
Probably we all had a trawl around freebie warehouse and other such giant outlets when we were newbies, and, chances are we ended up with some sad fashion disasters.
Fellow residents, it does not have to be that way!
With a little help, a little inside knowledge and membership of just one group (just one of your oh so valuable group slots), you can save a fortune, try new things and have a huge amount of fun.
Today I am focusing on female avatars – but a lot of the knowledge is transferable to other genders/styles of av.
By no means is this a complete guide but it’s intended to be a good starting point, so if you are new or if you just need an outfit for a fancy dress party join me.
Ladies, your first stop in world should be to Pixel Dolls, find their subscribe-o-matic join, then touch again for history – there is a VIP group gift, crammed full of lovely lovely things, boots, outfits and an absolutely divine, high quality skin in many shades.
Your next move should be to find somewhere quiet and decide which group for freebie hunters you are going to join – personally I love Creamy Cooljokes Freestyle group – as with any freebie group you will get a LOT of notices most days – don’t worry though soon you will be as addicted as I am to just going to look…I don’t care what anyone says – you can NOT have too many clothes.
Once you have done that you need to get yourself down to Free Dove – much respect to the owners – what they have done is just amazing, here you will find freebies gathered from some of the top designers in second life, all under one roof – YES you will have to fight the lag, yes, if you go at one of the peak rush hours you will probably crash and/or freeze but it IS worth it. Here you can find everything from jeans and lovely girly sneakers to elegant Victorian dresses and delicate stiletto shoes. Plenty of jewelry, sexy underwear, skins and a host of shapes too – if you don’t follow any other advice from this article, even if you haven’t picked up a freebie since you were more than a week old, get down to Free Dove and be amazed. Free Dove also have their own group too – if I had more room I’d join (PLEASE LL, more groups, PLEASE).
As you have just crashed from ALL the loveliness you have found at Free Dove open up a web browser or two.
The best way to get a full picture is to jump on the interweb.
First of all if you aren’t already registered at http://www.onrez.com/ then you should be – here you can send yourself (and others) freebies, you can search by price, and there are some great bargains to be had – after all – you can’t get much cheaper than free.
Your next stop should be http://fabfree.wordpress.com/freebie-break-down/ a fantastic list of outlets which carry free stuff, many of whom are my favourite stores (if you haven’t been to http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ where Creamy and friends will not only be alerting you to todays best (and usually transient) freebies there are pictures too!
This article was supposed to be a short one – but that isn’t possible – here I have just managed to scratch the surface of what you can get. So if you have something you desperately need but can’t afford to pay for, or can’t find, drop me a notecard, if I can help I will – but seriously – if you follow the advice in this article you will be turned from Cinderella to a princess in just a few tps.

Why Do You Need To See My Underwear?

I had a party to go to. I was shopping for an outfit. Costume actually as it was the Pirate themed party at Metamorphosis, and I must have gone to 12 stores looking for something to wear. At five minutes before the party started, I ended up at my favourite goth store and went right to the men's section for a coat. Why the men's? Because every store I had gone to had women's clothes that didn't cover much of anything. There are hundreds of stores in sl that carry clothes, why is it almost all of them think a skirt is the same size as a belt? More often then not, I find myself as of late buying items that are suppose to be "Mens" because I am just tired of seeing 400Linden price on something that won't pass a PG rating. My best friend in SL told me one afternoon while I was cooing over a red lace men's outfit wishing it came in women's to just get it; "unlike rl in sl one size really does fit all." Well, yes and no. One size might fit all shapes, but that doesn't mean one style will fit all tastes. For those of us who want to dress sexy and still keep our bodies covered, please give us more choices.

Do You love the Skin You're in?

I found myself looking around at all the avs around me about two weeks ago, thinking just how beautiful they all looked and how plain I did. Wasn't sl created to make us feel better about ourselves? To let us be more than what we could in rl?
So I started to look for makeup, still too new to know that you need a full skin in most cases. I did find one look that was just perfect, dark smoky eyes and pale lipstick. It looked fabulous on the model. Perfect I thought and was off.
A few hours later while in a meeting with my editor, she asked if I needed some help. I looked well, see-through. Back to the drawing board. Finding a skin that I liked all of was a time consuming job. I ended up spending a full week shopping and trying on demos from every sl store that carried skins. When considering a skin, you must take into account: 1) How fitting is it for day to day -especially if you have a job in sl. 2) Does it flatter your favourite shape that you wear all the time? 3)Will it go with most hair styles in sl? and 4) How does it look in all the lighting settings? The last one was my biggest mistake. I had tried it on in "noon" mode and hadn't thought about how it would look in "midnight" or sunrise/sunset mode.
My choice was a goth skin that was meant to make you look like a zombie. In the end, not what I was going for. Also, I have to admit that when I tried on the demo, I did so bald and the skin just didn't seem to work with any of the hairdos.
What I did find in the end, was a skin that was not really a "normal skin" and not really a goth skin. Most cases the goth skins were too over the top in makeup for my style, and the normal skins were too ordinary for my style. The so called "light" skins still had a tan, and all the "pale" skins had crazy make up.
When I did find one, it was at Digital Dragon Designs.

Crazy avatar designs?

Well, there are plenty. As you know. But yesterday I ran into an avatar that really must have been inspired by the movie Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. This is really a killer rabbit !! If you see it ... RUN !!!

Or ... I talked to him and he's really a nice bunny, deep deep inside. Feel free to stay and pay him a compliment. :-)
