When sculpts first came in I could see the possibilities but they were hard work for someone who had no idea how to create them, well I gave it a try but wasn't really that good and never got the shape I was actually trying for.
As sculpts became more and more popular the fashion industry picked up on them and pretty soon many designs came out using sculpts to help 'finish' an outfit, hoods cuffs, turnups, draped fabric even skirts.
But what about those designers, like me, that could not get their head around creating the sculpt maps and shades needed to stay ahead of the pack?
For a long time I spent hours trying to work them out and trying to find modifiable ones and even buying the individual maps from SLX as they appeared. But these seemed very expensive and cost prohibitive in the end so I gave up thinking prices would come down and better programs for creating them would be found.
But then I met 10 Goosson and her partner Marcthur of M&M, Marcthur had become proficient at creating sculpts with 10 not far behind and between them they created packs of sculpts for fashion designers to use, as well as for almost any other purpose you can think of including shoes, flower petals, trees and furniture, far too many to tell you about here.
For me it was the answer I had been looking for and, I suspect, a lot of other major designers - sculpted cuffs, collars, turnups, drapes and hoods began appearing all over the grid.
10 and Marcthur continue to expand their range every pack comes with many styles, shade maps and clear easy instructions for how to make the most of the sculpt map provided.
So that new outfit you bought with the hoods and turnups probably sprang from M&Ms sculpt maps and if like me you can't make them yourself then check them out at http://slurl.com/secondlife/DoubleMM/183/113/77

We had some wonderful entries in the design contest, really showing the variety and scope of designers imaginations.
The Winner is shown here designed by Nany Piaggio of Black rose designs and modelled by Alexa Trefoil.
Nany's design can be worn either as a short catsuit or as a swimsuit. This will soon be available in our main office as well as XStreet.
The Judging panel had a difficult task choosing a winner.
Other entries were Analog Juns T-shirt, unfortunately on the night the shirt did not rez for either James or I when it was modelled by Kyrinnia Demoulins, Miss Venezuala in the Miss Virtual Worlds contest run by Best of SL Magazine.
A huge THANK YOU to all the beautiful models:

Its no secret that I am a huge fan of Mami Jewel and her partnership with Edo Tone of Styles of Edo and when she dropped me some new designs I couldn't wait to try them out, I was not disappointed!
GRACE (shown right) is a sweet design which works well for work or play - classy and chic - it comes in 5 colours all with a black high waist skirt, the bold design on the top is carried through with the flexi prim ribbon on the chest, this one I often wear for work teamed with a black jacket but it would fit equally well at a cocktail party.
FARFALLA is fantastic - the only word for it, sassy, chic, romantic, cheeky don't describe this design well enough - it has to be worn to be appreciated to its fullest. The perfect gown for an evening of dancing and once again Mami astounds me with her attention to detail and textures. There are not many designers out there that can compete with the realism of Mami's 'fabrics'Posted by DV at 9:45 AM 2 comments

Having a little time to spare while waiting for the fun event at the Lavapit last night I decided to take a look at the Zullay opening (besides I love a scavenger hunt).
Arrival was not easy as the opening was popular and things did take a little while to rez, but once it did I saw a lovely location and of course a lot of people having a look around.
'The store contains 4 different collections:
The Poet Collection, The Glamour Collection, The Ethereal Collection, and The Haute Couture Collection. Each represents a specific style of clothing, hair and skins to allow our customers to shop according to their mood or desired look.
::The Poet Collection :: is a soft, romantic group of items created with soft colors and classic lines for a vintage feel.
::The Glamour Collection:: is modern and sophisticated, with bold colors and beautiful prints.
::The Ethereal Collection:: is a fantasy world filled with seductive mermaids, whimsical faeries and magical elves.
::The Couture Collection:: consists of a few pieces of unique fashion that are very limited in that there is only one version of each outfit created and sold. '
I soon found a couple of freebies to try out;
Pictured here you can see me trying on the Glamour Iris set, the pants fit well with prim cuffs, the top is a delight with the prim draped back that matches perfectly - I often find prim additions although well conceived rarely 'work' this one did and I love it - a simple and chic daywear outfit - and it was FREE!
Wandering around I was drawn again and again to the Glamour coat, it comes in several colours but for me red will always be a favourite, when I first tried it on I found the prim skirt didn't fit me very well, although I haven't got a large avatar, but accidentally clicking it I found to my amazement it was scripted (that will teach me to read the notecards in the folder!) once re sized it was as stylish as I thought it would be with the detailing especially eye catching. This will definitely become a firm favourite of mine - although one little niggle is that with the prim collar worn on the chest I cannot wear any of my usual necklaces and anyone that knows me knows I always wear one of two that were gifts from James and the coat just does not look as good without the high prim collar.
Another free gift I found was Sweet Fae from the Ethereal Collection This was well described as it is very sweet, the dress worn alone is absolutely lovely, Zullay Thor outdid herself with the gentle folds on the prim skirt of this dress with gentle blending of colours I would happily wear this as a cocktail dress. The wings accessorise it well and although I am wearing them as found with glow and full bright this can be modified for a less ethereal look.
Overall I was impressed with the attention to detail and the soft look of the fabrics this is one designer who has got it right and worth keeping an eye on.

I had pledged not to buy anymore hair until my out of control inventory was tamed, friends scoffed in disbelief when I refused invitations to Hair Fair 2008.My good intentions were blown out of the water when dana, my beautiful boss lady, gave me the order;" Fire our readers need to know about Hair Fair 2008 - so go report". Its a tough job but someone has to do it.So, having removed my high prim items, sacrificing my AO, and putting my dance partners on hold I set off. I spent six hours wandering the stalls and I suspect I still missed a few designers, even with maps to guide me.Hair Fair 2008 is a charitable event for Locks of Love, a charity which raises funds for children who suffer from hair loss from illness. The hair fair this year is huge - it covers four sims and has numerous designers showing, small up and coming designers as well as the big, well know ( and well loved) favourite designers. What a treat we hair addicts have in this hair fair, there are many hair designs which are unique for the fair and a lot of the designers have been especially generous supplying freebies on their stands. One of my greatest pleasures of this hair fair is the amount of mens hair that is available. Men have always been quite poorly served compared to us ladies when it comes to choices in good hair, this is at last changing and it is a real pleasure to see. Special mention here to the designs of Find Ash - a design shop that I have been taking customers to regularly - it's good to see they are growing and getting more generally known. Find Ash are by no means alone in their expanding mens (and really good unisex designs - to all the men I hear moaning about how hard it is to find good hair, I'd say take time to go to the hair fair and take a peek at what is available. Rezzable have 3 great mens hair on show and there are many wonderful new options for men - AT LAST the designers are waking up to the almost untapped market that is the Second Life man who wants to look good.I was also very impressed by some of the more adventureous designs on show - Tekeli-li! dark artistry began as the random notion of Tekelili Tantalus, a traditional artist specializing in dark fantasy and Lovecraftian themes has produced some wonderful fantasy "hair" unfortunately the picture doesn't do his amazing Gorgon design anything close to justice. The options on this are amazing, and the serpants are textured in such a way as to make them look like they are moving.

Premiere Modeling Management presented the Glitz and Glamour show to a packed venue - in fact so packed that I actually could not get into the venue for 30 minutes and have had to use photographs from Phillippe chaplin for the parts that I myself missed.
Styles of edo unveiled some new designs and have now expanded on their ladies business suits - which of course I love :)
I have shown a few that really stood out that night:

You know I love secondlife and I really love fashion and great quality clothes, but I do have a question for you -
What has happened to diversity?
Once upon a time the fashions of SL excelled at being different and I know every designer will shout when they read this but as a consumer aren't you finding that most of the big labels in SL are becoming more and more the same? Designs so similar they could almost have come from the same person. Yes I know each is individual, I know every designer is proud of their individuality but designs is SL can be so much more than they are for these names.
But then do we as consumers buy what we feel safe in? Do we end up wearing the same things we would in RL?
I am talking on a general level here and definitely tarring all with the same brush, but look at Secondlife, check some of SL fashion blogs for yourselves even hair styles they are becoming more and more like the real life stores - off the shelf basic fashion.
So where is the diversity? where is the fantastic designs that are POSSIBLE in secondlife as they are not in real life?
Is it possible that Residents are moving towards a copycat world?
There are some designers out there who make sure thier designs are 'not possible in real life' but these are few and far between and I think struggling as people move more towards the big name brands. Also maybe the content theft issue has most consumers scared of buying from unknown designers? How do they know the outfit/hair design they have bought is a genuine resale or a rip from a big name designer? The ordinary resident doesn't, therefore they play safe by sticking to the big names.
Are consumers killing creativity by always buying the same outfits they would wear in RL?
I would value your opinions as this is just mine........................

Just occasionally I find a new designer that I think is awesome and love to let you know.
Yesterday I took a trip to Tyche to visit Edo Tone and noticed a new shop, so being me, went to have a nose around.
Now there is nothing I like more than an evening gown, i have even been known to make a few, but these designs took my breath away especially the 3 shown here. Above my favourite Siren the high slit at the side is not only extremely sensual but perfectly aligned, the prim just floats along and the detailing on the bodice is beautiful. highlights and shading are exactly right not over done or understated. I could wear this gown and feel a million Lindens!
HARLOW on the left is also stunning with a texture that looks like its pure sequin it again is Divine the light and shade effects fantastic. I love the open back and swish of prim on this design. Its a simple and elegant delight.
The panel dress above comes in 6 colour choices and each has 3 skirt length options from knee length to floor. The scrunched gloves finish it off beautifully as does the large prim bow on the base of the spine.
The designers name is Mami Jewell and for someone who has been in SL for such a short time her designs are inspirational. She also designs daywear and underwear I would recommend anyone to go and see her store on Tyche especially if you are looking for something new and fresh but with a perfect quality.
Azul is QUALITY!

This week I was looking around our office at Ian Bernard, just to see what was nearby and decided to explore OMG! Inc which is right next door to our main office.
I had been here before to their first ever fashion show and quite liked what I saw. So i went to see what was new.
I bumped into Kaddan Yue and we sat down for a chat. OMG! Inc is the brainchild of Kaddan and has been in the pipeline for over a year. Most people know her as a business woman, working for BNT/ACE, so a range of clothing? Where did that come from?
Kaddan Yue: Duchess and myself wanted to run a business, well our own
DV: Duchess?
Kaddan Yue: Duchess Shepherd, she is Co-CEO, Duchess is a designer in real life but not with photoshop she does hand drawings
Kaddan Yue: but I did the research and looked all over sl, to see what was out there. SL is a second life, so my second life is in learning to make clothing, but most important understanding how business works in SL. OMG helps me reach both goals. This is my dream.
DV: The designing or the business side of it?
Kaddan Yue: Well right now it is both, in the beginning it was just business. I am learning to actually make clothing myself, and I love the business end of it.
DV: What makes OMG clothes different?
Kaddan Yue: Well in the company right now, there are 3 and a 1/2 of us designing and we all come for different parts of the world, or USA, so we have a lot of styles.
DV: So the idea is to have different designers all under one label?
Kaddan Yue: Yes, and actually have it work, actually it is working pretty good, although I am the CEO, I am a team player, and we work as a team. We do have issues just like in real life, but that is part of being a professional.
Kaddan Yue: Their are a lot of designers and a lot that never make it on their own, so we are trying to make it together. We each have a part to play
DV: How many designers do you hope to have?
Kaddan Yue: I would like to have 6 solid designers all together.
DV: One section you seen to be missing is evening wear?
Kaddan Yue: Formal wear for women will be out next week, we have some great stuff coming out and feel the key is textures, and of course details.
Kaddan then gave me a sneak preview of some of the formal wear soon to be released and its well worth waiting for :)
I shall be keeping an eye on OMG! Inc, this team will be something to be reckoned with with Kaddans business mind and a good team of designers this is one company worth a visit.
