Ttukinowaguma Hair

There are 2 things I have failed to be able to create, one is shoes the other is hair, so when I find a good designer I go a bit mad and will wear their designs all the time until I find someone new.
Recently at the Styles of edo show for Narkissos I saw the designs of KateForster Akina of Ttukinowaguma hair and thought I would go and take a much closer look as several of the shorter styles looked like my style.
One thing I have consistently noticed with updo's is although the back may be incredibly intricate and lovely the front lets the styles down with Ttukinowaguma hair the front is as detailed and for a change the eyes are not covered - this may just be a fashion trend of the moment but 90% of the styles I like also cover the eyes too much - these do not.
In fact the range of styles is pretty big with both mens and womens styles in long and short.

All styles have colour change options with accessories also having 133 colour options.
I have seen many hair designers and love a few of them but I find it refreshing to see a hair designer with a flair for different this is one for the favourites folder!

Hair Fair 2008

I had pledged not to buy anymore hair until my out of control inventory was tamed, friends scoffed in disbelief when I refused invitations to Hair Fair 2008.My good intentions were blown out of the water when dana, my beautiful boss lady, gave me the order;" Fire our readers need to know about Hair Fair 2008 - so go report". Its a tough job but someone has to do it.So, having removed my high prim items, sacrificing my AO, and putting my dance partners on hold I set off. I spent six hours wandering the stalls and I suspect I still missed a few designers, even with maps to guide me.Hair Fair 2008 is a charitable event for Locks of Love, a charity which raises funds for children who suffer from hair loss from illness.The hair fair this year is huge - it covers four sims and has numerous designers showing, small up and coming designers as well as the big, well know ( and well loved) favourite designers. What a treat we hair addicts have in this hair fair, there are many hair designs which are unique for the fair and a lot of the designers have been especially generous supplying freebies on their stands.One of my greatest pleasures of this hair fair is the amount of mens hair that is available. Men have always been quite poorly served compared to us ladies when it comes to choices in good hair, this is at last changing and it is a real pleasure to see. Special mention here to the designs of Find Ash - a design shop that I have been taking customers to regularly - it's good to see they are growing and getting more generally known. Find Ash are by no means alone in their expanding mens (and really good unisex designs - to all the men I hear moaning about how hard it is to find good hair, I'd say take time to go to the hair fair and take a peek at what is available. Rezzable have 3 great mens hair on show and there are many wonderful new options for men - AT LAST the designers are waking up to the almost untapped market that is the Second Life man who wants to look good.I was also very impressed by some of the more adventureous designs on show - Tekeli-li! dark artistry began as the random notion of Tekelili Tantalus, a traditional artist specializing in dark fantasy and Lovecraftian themes has produced some wonderful fantasy "hair" unfortunately the picture doesn't do his amazing Gorgon design anything close to justice. The options on this are amazing, and the serpants are textured in such a way as to make them look like they are moving.

Calla to split hairs?

Shocked? Yes I honestly am ......

We all know in the world of secondlife partnerships come and go but this is one that I really did not expect:

"After nearly two years, Haedon and I are ready to do our own thing. Haedon will have her own, new island, and will be working under her own, new brand. At the moment, I'm unaware of what the names of her new brand and her new island will be, so they will be a surprise for me too." Tigerlily Koi announced on the Calla blog today.

Haedons' new store is called Tousled in the Nullport shopping center and the None of the Above Town Square.

Calla will thankfully continue under Tigerlily although closure for a few days is necessary. Tigerlily has assured us of better things to come from Calla on its reopening.

The making of a gorean master

A few days ago I got a desperate call "I've got a new Jarl - and he needs a bit of fashion help".

I have to admit I was intrigued - - how much fashion advice does a Gorean Master NEED I wondered?

But I've advised a few men when they have needed make overs and how difficult can it be...

What greeted me was a bit of a man mountain - almost as wide as he is tall, his biceps so bulging that they looks like his arms had been stuffed with small, fat children. His neck crushed under the weight of his ragged, mop like hair, his legs looking like mooring rope that had been used by boy scouts for knot tying practice. Imagine a very large brick, with legs and arms and covered with a cheap skin.

"Aye Lass, I think I need a new skin

"Two points here - first only men in there 70's have the right to call me lass, I left school over 20 years ago so I think I count as a woman at worst and a lady at best.

And to say he needed a new skin was like saying that Second Life has the odd glitch - true but somewhat of an understatement.

The skin was no problem easy to find a good skin when L$ is not an issue - off to Dragonfly and - PRESTO a lovely skin.

This is where it got tricky - a good skin showed up all the flaws in the shape - so I tried the tactful approach

"Perhaps a better defined shape would improve your look"

"Aye but I made this shape myself - 'tis manly"(no - actually pushing your sliders up to 100% does not make you manly).

"Well lets just look - see if we can find something with better definition for you

"Sure enough After a bit of grid hopping I found a lovely barbarian shape, based on Arnie in his Conan days - 7ft2 tall - shoulders broad enough to park a small car on, arms that looked like Popeye after a spinach overdose, a rippling 6 pack, slim waist, a firm, rounded ass and legs like well carved tree trunks.

"Just look", I pleaded, "If you get the mod version you can play with anything you don't like"

"Lass he looks like a wimp" (Hmm there's that L word again).

"A wimp? It's a lovely, manly shape, a shape fit for a hero"

"Nay Lass, it ain't tall enough, he is far too pretty, he has too much waist, too much of a 6 pack" (Really - 7foot tall is too short? And what woman really thinks there is such a thing as TOO much of a six pack on a barbarian hero??)

More grid hopping and I find a shape advertised as for "men who want to be bears"...well, as long as the Gorean is relatively sheltered or open minded he might not know or care what a 'bear' is, amongst certain groups in SL, now then, does the designer have an outlet that isn't in an obviously gay mall? (Instinct told me this man probably wouldn't be comfortable in a mall - especially not one that advertised itself as such).

After a bit more grid hopping (really - I don't mind being ruthed after every teleport), I found the designer had a small outlet in an small, innocent looking mall and the store had the shape I was looking for.

"Please, come and look at this shape - I am sure you'll like it - it looks like a REAL hulk of a hero"

"Well Lass" (it's starting to bug me now), it's better than your last find, more of a manly shape" (Stop sniggering at the back of the room please), "But still, he doesn't have the muscle"

Oh but now we know 7ft7 is the ideal height for a Gorean man...

"You can get the mod version, change what you don't like.."I humbly suggested.

"Aye Lass, I tell ye what, I'll bring over my little lass to see what she thinks

"Two minutes later there in front of me is a tall, willowy yet buxom slave girl, with just enough clothing to be decent in a PG sim..

After formal introduction ("Lass, this is the Lass that's been helping me get even handsomer"), the slave girl gigglingly agreed that the 'bear' shape wasn't too bad and was fit for a hero - with a few adjustments maybe...

The sale was made and I breathed a huge sigh of relief, now there was just the hair..

Silly me, hair for men is always difficult, but I'd recently been to Pazzaz and knew they have some lovely mens hair which I thought would fit the bill...of course I was wrong...

"Too long, too short, too girly"

More grid hopping, more please to just come look, which were often met with an accepting of a tp, 5 minutes for the store to rez and a blunt "No, Lass" and a speedy barbarian exit.

Then as a last resort I went to a little place I know which has maybe a dozen mens hairs, there was one, a mid length pony tail which might do. the usual (by now) invitation to just come look, but this time after 5 mins to rez, before I could point out which hair I had in mind - I get a "Perfect, Lass, I've got it"...

I turn around to see him sporting which was obviously based on Rod Stewart in the 70's...

oh hum..well he's happy...

A day later I got an invitation to come see the full effect.

After rezzing in what was some sort of cave dwelling I see my barbarian stood next to a large open fire, his Rod Stewart hairdo, the skin being shown to it's best (not much in the way of clothes to spoil the view) and an obviously modded version of the shape (bears just aren't big enough it seems), all dressed in a pair of rough hewn trousers and two weapons belts, bristling with swords, knifes and sharp pointy things strung over his shoulders and across his chest..

Nice enough if you like that sort of thing I suppose -

but now I need a companion in a well cut tux and a martini to ease my shattered nerves - in future I'll stick to helping male escorts get their look together...

"You've had a makeover!"

Discovering prim hair is one of those things that once you do you wonder how you ever got on without it, personally i think i have about 50 styles of hair in many colors.

Yesterday I had a chat with a friend and after I TP'd him he said to me "You've had a makeover!"

Actually I hadn't but it made me think, what had I changed since I last saw him? The only thing I change is my hair, I have had the same naughty designs skin since the beginning (although I now have 2 makeups), any way i tried taking a snap of myself in 2 different styles and seeing how much difference it made.

I was quite surprised at how much it does change your appearance. For instance I can normally be seen with short reddish hair and even just switching between style changed my look drastically. My favourites shown above are the ETD, most people know Elikapeka Tiramisu's fantastic styles, although its a recent discovery of mine, I was always happy with Calla and rarely looked elsewhere. I also like the short Victoria from Frangipani Designs although I have stuck to Onyx LeShelle of Maitreya for a while as my main style her designs are so realistic and move so naturally.

I do like to wear long hair sometimes, usually if I am going somewhere formal. again I usually fall back on my Calla designs, red poppy for not so formal, then Saffron if I feel girly or Poinsettia for a real formal look. I do love the Naughty Designs Angel for both formal and girly. A friend wore the Rapunzel style from Mewf Demina of FreeSpeerit this is fantastically different - I love it for that quirky mood.

Whatever your style changing your hair can make a huge impact and with so many great designers out there its hard to decide. I suppose everyone has their own 'look' and this usually includes the hairstyle they wear the most. Next time you feel like a makeover maybe just a change of hairstyle will be enough.

appearance part one

The very basic basics.........

Yes i know everyone went through tutorial island, quick as possible and probably took very little notice of how to sort out your appearance.
I have met a few long term members who still have no idea how to even colour a bought item, never mind actually make their own clothing.
So this guide is here to help - even if you are not new to SL - maybe you will find some of this helpful.

1 HAIR

OK step one, how do we get rid of the dreaded hat? Or that awful newbie hair we start with?
You know it took me a week to discover i could buy hair?
Then I couldn't get rid of the hair underneath the prim hair?

How to wear and adjust prim hair

Its one of those things in SL that is simple when you know totally confusing when you don't!
If you buy or find freebie hair most comes with a bald cap/base this is what you need to wear first!
Drag your box onto the floor (rez in world) then right click and 'OPEN'
Copy contents to your inventory, check the items are actually in your inventory (usually in a folder) and delete the box on the ground.
go to the folder and click to open it,
wear the bald cap/base
then right click the little box icon and click 'WEAR'
hey presto you are now wearing your new hair! (without the embarrassing newbie hair underneath)

Doesn't look right? hair too small/big? too high/ low?
OK once you are wearing prim hair you need to learn to either adjust it or your shape to fit.
Prim hair tends to come in 3 sizes so you need to make your head fit the hair, although you can make the hair larger/smaller too.
Look at your shape first and decide which needs to be changed your shape or the hair?
You decided the hair.....
right click on the hair
click 'EDIT'
you should see 3 coloured arrows appear and a pop up menu
the arrows will allow you to reposition the hair, click on the up/down or left/ right arrow and while holding the mouse button down, drag the hair up or down as needed, You need to be close up so zoom in to your face to see clearly where the hair needs to sit.
The hair is too big/small?
This is a little trickier if you haven't ever edited anything in SL before:
Look at the popped up menu and locate the little check boxes, by default the 'POSITION' box is checked, you need to find the 'STRETCH' box and check it.
Once you have done that 4 small white cubes should appear around your new hair
click on one of these and while holding the mouse button down drag the cube out or in depending on whether you need to make the hair larger or smaller.
Once it looks about the right size you may need to reposition the hair - check the 'POSITION' box on the pop up menu again and the arrows should reappear. Then adjust as needed.
Close the edit box.
This may take a little practice and a few tries to get it looking good, but stick with it and it will be well worth the frustration and lip biting.
Congratulations you are now wearing prim hair that fits.
On some prim hair you can also recolour but more about this in the next basic lesson.............
