Being down time today, I thought, what better way to spend my afternoon than buying a gift for the man in my life - turns out it was a long job, much longer than anticipated. Now mens fashion is something I have rarely looked for - the occasional suit for a friend - but fashion, no.
Ok SLExchange, the biggest shopping experience in SL I must be able to find something there? Well to be honest I did but what struck me most was the lack of mens clothing designers! Sure if you want shoes, boots, jewelry, or outrageous no problem, but day wear? Work suits of good quality? Yes I struggled.
There are some pretty good designers out there for the men - but nothing compared to the womans! The pictures you see here are a few of the ones I found today, and old favourites that I go to time and again, like RFYRE, NYTE N DAY and DE but I also found a few newer ones(at least new to me) like LAPOINTE DESIGNS (loved this shirt btw).
Classic menswear with style and wearability, probably what most men are looking for and its not that easy to find.
So if you know of a great mens designer add it to the comments here, let everyone share your good fortune - and designers maybe its time to think more about the menswear market?

Finding interesting clothes for boys is something that's always frustrating in rl... having the choice of t-shirt and jeans or a suit and tie or (shudder) sportswear.... it's enough to make a guy wanna put on a frock.
The choice is slightly better in SL, but still far from adequate. Men deserve the variety and style that is dedicated to the clothing creations made for women. So come on designers! Step up to the challenge!
Actually I think there is a pretty good selection of designers of menswear, if you know where to begin looking. Skin choices, decent shape and hair, however, are much more restricted - there are perhaps three, possibly four, decent stores that do combinations of the three.
For menswear though, I highly recommend reading www.secondman.com, that provides an almost weekly summary of the releases of the major menswear designers in SL.
Additionaly Ben Vanguard runs www.slmen.com, where each day he puts together a different outfit from designers around SL, providing information and store locations on each piece and covering a wide range of styles from formal through to grungy.
Just a few pointers to share:
For shoes it's pretty much a good bet to start with Eponymous Trenchmouth's "Jeepers Creepers" and the small selection at "Shiny Things".
"Desert Moon Clothiers" do a good range of jeans, t-shirts and some nice boots.
"Young Urban" is good for more 'worn' or vintage items and does nice sweaters. Similarly "Casa Del Shai" specialises in high quality retro-feeling mens clothing.
Barnesworth Anubis's boutique does an excellent range of nice shirts, suits and semi-casual items, including co-ords and accessories.
For coats and 'darker' items, I like Sinistyle - they have some awesome trenchcoats.
Pixeldolls and Frangipani Designs also have a good selection of casual menswear, plus, if you have a bit of money to burn, check out Redgrave - Emilia has very high quality items, but the prices might make you blush a little.

No problem Dana, I agree with you, it's much harder to know where to begin. It's like in physical stores, the menswear is somewhere at the back, between kids clothing and kitchenware!
